Japanese watchmaking
Japan changed the history of the watch. What began in 1881 with a small watch shop in Tokyo went on to give the world the first quartz wristwatch, watches powered by light and the G-Shock, the “unbreakable” watch.
Today Japanese brands combine precision, innovation and outstanding quality for the price. At Sarvina we are an official dealer for Seiko —one of the few in the Canary Islands—, Citizen, Orient and Casio.
The story in eight dates
- 1881Kintaro Hattori opens the Tokyo watch shop from which Seiko is born.
- 1918A watch research institute is founded in Tokyo; it will become Citizen.
- 1950Orient Watch is founded, specialising in mechanical watches.
- 1965Seiko's first dive watch, forerunner of the Prospex line.
- 1969Seiko Astron: the world's first quartz wristwatch.
- 1974Casio launches its first watch, the Casiotron.
- 1976Citizen creates the first light-powered analogue watch, the origin of Eco-Drive.
- 1983Casio's G-Shock is born, built to resist shocks, water and vibration.
